Is the Hydra a Model Organism?

The Hydra is a model organism that can be used to develop new tools for genetic engineering and transgenic animals. The scientists behind the project haven't gotten CRISPR to work yet, but they're working on it. They've just recently launched a website called openhydra.org where you can find links to all of the resources that are out there.
