The Preservation of Footprints
We have only been an archipelago, a group of islands, for a relatively short space of time. Up until that point, we were always a peninsula of northwest europe. And people would have simply walked into our part of the world. There wou had ben no need for boats. The interior was probably quite wooded, maybe morass and bogs and marsh. It might have been easier to move around the outside, following the coast line. Where there was a river, which would also let you penetrate inland. Small bands of hunter gatherers would have tended to exploit that kind of area. So that that process ofof the accidental, by chance preservation of footprints
