By the end of June, more than 150,000 railroad workers in 27 states had joined the sympathy strike. Bosses grasping for a way to destroy this threat to their supremacy land on a tactic that is familiar to all of us today: hyping up acts of violence from protesting workers. The president claimed interference with the post was a federal issue, and used that to justify deploying 14,000 soldiers to crack heads.
