Tension boiled over in 20 14, when anti government protests erupted and turned deadly. Ucranians from across the country converged in central kiev square of independence to demand closer ties with western europe. Rebecca kesby has been talking to someone who took part in those protests. They gathered in the rain and in the snow through the gloomy winter, singing the anthem of the european union which bespoke ucranian lyrics.
