Proverbs 16, 2 says this, all the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives. Our motives reveal the true condition of our heart. Desire for significance drives us to work longer hours than healthy for our family or for our relationship with the Lord. Those are motives that we've just got to be honest with ourselves.
