In order to avoid having to do an LP, what we need is a strong negative predictive test. Andrew mentioned the abdominal exam as something he thought was probably not very helpful. So why don't we start with that? And using my handy dandy app, it mentions likelihood ratios for a number of different physical exam maneuvers used in the detection of a sitee. In one here, I've actually not heard of, which is the puddle sign. The patient lies prone for five minutes and then gets onto all fours. You can see how this could be problematic.
