Thinking and Learning in the University
I do think that there's a type of freedom individual freedom that's cultivated by learning for its own sake. And it's very important politically that this type of learning be kept alive, not for any partisan purpose, but for egalitarianism. What you need is citizens who know how to make their own judgments and are in trust and trust one another to come to conclusions. I don't want to say thinking along these lines doesn't belong in the university of course it does where else would it belong?
