Can You Pick Up Your Anchor When the Windlass Fails?
Learn how to pick up your anchor, including the chain without a windlass at all. The problem with the windlass is theyre sometimes so fast, it's like, it's very violent. If you're in a tidal area where the tide and the wind are going to affect boats differently, put out two anchors. A big, heavy boat, like ice bar with a deep keel, is going to be affected by the tide more than the wind. You never really need to put two anchors out if you've sized that and your chain correctly in the first place. This only worked in calm weather, but then what we did was we took the dinghy out with a stern on
