How Much of This Is Going On?

How much of this sort of thing is a matter of, to go back to David French, what David calls nut picking? The more mainstreamed it becomes, the more that it's framed as, well, we're the naughty ones that are being punished, come join our group of people here. And so there's an entire kind of young evangelical who doesn't expect to grow a church but expects to be an outrage troll on social media. That starts to become a self-fulfilling prophecy over time.
