What Good Could Ever Come for Me?
It's fascinating to me that we don't think enough about the civil war. We talk endlessly about the Tudors quite rightly, but this is almost in a way more important because it set our modern state was founded in those years. The settlement that followed Charles II was a kind of compromise, which made possible scientific discoveries. I don't think that we will or should be a republic again, but it might be worthwhile remembering the settlement that we ended up with as a constitutional monarchy. This is a really profoundly important era in history, not just our history, but world history, actually.
