The Importance of Context in Popular Culture
In the case of Kylie we're talking about 1988 and as you said there was no internet. How important is context for you in terms of studying popular culture? Well it's hugely important because context is really what is it how we just decide if something is popular I mean like a litre store Hi-Art but same piece could be recorded and used in a commercial for burgers or something so that's why part of the reason I'm hesitant with the high-low thing is because it's got nothing to do with the individual piece of art and everything to do with how people use it, he says.
