There's a seductive truthfulness and reasonableness about poetry that lands home in an area of commonality with other human beings. The Psalms look at the terrible beauty of the world and they don't sugarcoat it. If you think about it, if you read the Psalms from the beginning day in, there is not a trite statement in the Psalter. And so poetry has par.
