Anius and Achilles in the Iliad
In the Iliad, Anius tells Achilles that he has divine lineage in his past. He says it's Zeus who fills men with excellence and drains them of it as he chooses. And yet it's comes to men from Zeus almost irrespective of your lineage. The goodness, the excellence, the success at being that humans have is at its height at its summit in the gods.
