The violence between settlers and the palestinians began to really take shape in an organized manner when the british mandate came to an end at the end of world war two. A more radical wing of the hagana that broke off called the argun also formed to engage in retaliatory and even pre-emptory attacks against arabpalestinians. The united nations voted to adopt resolution 181 which partitioned palestine into two separate states one arab and one jewish. This decision plunged palestine into a civil war in which arabs and jews fought in an eruption of violence amidst this violence. By the time it ended israel had significantly developed its military capabilities
