The Origins of the Inorganic Metaphor
The idea that the earth had this internal structure was also kind of a novel thing because again it's quite common sense called to just not think about that. It took so much longer than might seem obvious for people to really realize that the vast majority of matter in our observable vicinity is absolutely sterile dead and doesn't seem to be doing much interesting. Even though we have some evidence of some species going extinct and that is might be possible of humanity as well on the whole we don't really care because clearly there's so much life in this universe that will reappear again but then you get some more findings and and this more evidence of mass extinction that some people start taking this more seriously with these discoveries
