Is There a Unity of Values About How We Should Live?

I think you have to begin by thinking, there is a way people should live. It isn't that, as the existentialist said, oh, I'll just throw a dot and then commit myself enthusiastically to whatever the dot hits. We have a responsibility to make something of it. And I believe that leading your life with a certain kind of dignity, with authenticity is crucial. The idea of pluralism functions very often as an excuse. You can't have both liberty and equality. That kind of a dodge is not on.
