Shachanka and the Slavic Society

In the mid 18 forties, shachanka became involved in the slavic society of kyril and methodius in kiv. The group named after the ninth century monks who accredited it devising the earliest slavonic alphabet, mihailo. When shipchenka came to cran from saint petersburg, he met members of the brotherhood,. They met him as a kind of national prophet. But soon the society was denounced and people associated with it were arrested, including shevchenko. Despite this, he received the harshest sentence of all those accused, an indefinite exile as a low ranking soldier in a flung corner of the russian empire.
