What Happened to the Squirrels?

There are two little squirrels that play in our back yard every morning. A few months ago, they were fighting up in the tree and one of them died. The other one stood up there awhile, waiting, then it went down to the body of its friend. And it sat there making this sound like that for an hour or two. And it did it. Now, animals who mourn in in really complicated ways. You know, crows mourn often by practising necrophelia, which is humans. But i think this applies to probably trees and plants and fungi too, grief and loss. It's a commonality among all creatures.
