Before the advent of judeo christian values, there was a different value set that reigned. Good means being all those things that make you good, and bad means not having all those good attributes. Anech rails against pity because that implies that youare actually trying to sympathize and feel what they feel. And so here we are at the modern age where this slave morality has conquered the world.
