Introduction
US officials have made a dramatic escalation over the case of Evan Gerskovich. The Wall Street Journal correspondent has been held in Russia on charges of espionage. He and other Western journalists have found it increasingly difficult to cover the Russian beat since Putin's re-invasion of Ukraine last February. We spoke to one of his good friends, New York Times Moscow correspondent Valerie Hopkins about Putin's war on journalism.
