"It's a really smart decision to open it in Barbie world, right? And, and without explaining the rules to an unnecessary degree," she said. "In order for the story to work, we absolutely have to think of Barbie as being a person essentially with agency." The first act of the movie has to be rock solid as being about the character's journeys, which means they have to be characters, you know, in the traditional sense.
