There are nine members on this appointed board and the bulk of them live kind of west of downtown, northwest of downtown in wealthy neighborhoods. Mike Miles also has already unveiled pretty sweeping reforms to 29 schools. Every staff member at those schools has to reapply for their job.
The state of Texas took over Houston’s Independent School District and replaced the superintendent and the elected board. But state takeovers like this rarely make schools better.
