By the 18th century, Monmouth and his history of Britain had become what it really is. Because now another group had decided to mine the Anglo-Saxon years to back up their beliefs. The focus now was on the origins of institutions of government, customs and laws. This came to the view that the common law, parliament, trial by jury, key tenants of English freedoms, had all originated with the Anglo- Saxons. But it turned out that pygmy dick was fighting a losing battle. Two World Wars saw the end of any credible belief in racial superiority.
