The Role of Saints in the Cunning Craft
Saints were big for the kind of folk. You see sometimes Protestant magicians writing notes and margins. Even if you are not actively working with as a spirit in and of itself, you still often find things called on before operations to conjure other spirits. In Spain, the people you might identify as cunning folk were definitely calling on saints really actively, not just to cleanse and guard victims of witchcraft, but to carry out spells.
