The order of the British Empire was created in 1917 right at the height of the First World War and thousands of people now are being given these medals and ribbons. This is kind of a democratizing moment in Britain it's kind of the second-class state and stage of the very slow process of getting to get into full adult suffrage. Lloyd George David Lloyd George was already liked the idea of using honors to serve various political purposes so creating a new order of chivalry they would recognize the large-scale civilian voluntary effort which feeds directly into into formal suffrage at the end of the war partial partial women suffrage after the war.
