Buddhism says the point is to do what we can to be fulfilled right here right now, as opposed to constantly deferring that fulfillment or enjoyment or meaning and attaching it to some externalized purpose. There's an idea in Zen that our suffering comes above all from trying to get to the solution to life. The real problem is thinking that our problems ought to come to an end at some point. I always find that really powerful because it returns my attention to the fact that this is dealing with the things I'm dealing with, this is being alive.
