The Dangers of Instagram

Instagram did not invent the male gaze it didn't invent narcissism as a compulsory mode of subjectivity for young women. These are things that feminist critics and theorists were writing about from the 1920s onwards with these new technologies. The tech is going to exacerbate existing power differentials unless there's a really self conscious effort to make that not happen. We thought we would play Get Off the Internet by Lutieger from I think their second album - very early Kathleen Hannah exhorting us to get off the internet.
