In a patient who has a normal GFR, so a GFR north of 60, it's very reasonable to add potassium to fluids. Patients are actually truly not getting that much potassium over a period of hours. So as long as you have a plan to monitor and follow it up, then I think it's veryreasonable to include potassium in your fluids. In a sick patient who is on a therapy that might cause either dysnatremia or hyperkalemia or other electrolyte woes, I would recommend at least checking daily BNPs.
