The way Socrates deals with this, just as Matt said, he admits at least implicitly that he doesn't take these things to be true at face value. He basically doesn't want to have the discussion about whether or not you believe those stories. If you aren't looking for some kind of vindication for the view that sometimes it's appropriate to visit punishments upon your parents, this story might give you some evidence that it is.
