We build our biggest neural pathways during the years that we have a lot of myelin. During puberty is when you learn about what it takes to get social attention. That's why love exists. It seems more important than anything else because it triggers all of your happy chemicals. Natural selection built a brain that motivates us to care a lot about whatever triggers those chemicals.
