The Importance of Ambitious Theory in University Philosophy

Philosophy of the period from 1900 to 1960 still has an impact on how university philosophy is being done and taught today. What's changed for sure is a sense of what the important questions are, he says. The idea that there might well be a place for ambitious theory hasn't come back as much since the 70s let's say. And I think it reflects a deeper moral and political idea of what you owe to your fellow philosophers - they're all seekers after truth in some way or another.
