Fahrenheit four 51 was written 70 years ago. It imagines an authoritarian future in which knowledge is suspect and books are burned because they might give people the wrong ideas, or any ideas at all. In most of the united states, outside of a few very expensive cities, walking is no longer what it has been for our species ever since we were a species. The default mode of getting around, thedefault is now the automobile and increasingly the suv. And in many places in america, especially if you're black or brown, just walking to the store can make you the target of the police, or of private security forces, or of self empowered vigilantes.
