The Importance of Air Power in the German Army
The key thing that he understands is the importance of air power. He realizes that his forces are not going to be able to be mobile so he wants them right near near the beaches in order to engage with landings. There's a huge disagreement within the german army about this and the panzer divisions are not placed in the places that they should be. The irony is that it is indeed air power that does for rommel himself and just a couple of days before the the july plot in 1944 Rommel is spotted by a british plane and his car is destroyed but he survives.
