Clarence Thomas was one of just four black students in a freshman class of 64. Tom O'Brien: Clarence had such a distinctive laugh that would start in the bowels of a cave and just build and roar. The two men made plans to meet up with some women from another college, but both their dates fell through. Instead, they drove together to Kansas where it was legal for 18-year-olds to drink.
