Dorothy Sayers had made a decisive move away from detective fiction and into religious playwriting. Radio in particular was a medium Sayers could use to break down the convention of unreality surrounding our Lord's person and might. She strongly felt that the British public were being deceived about Christ and his story. It's as if Christ wasn't born into history, she said. He was born into the Bible, authorized version. No wonder the story makes so little impression on the common man.
