Kodak won a billion dollar settlement with Rayband over polarized lens patents. The company was able to protect its patent portfolio for much longer than the typical four decades of protection around what seems like a technology that, if you knew how to do it, rayband could spin up a polarized lens factory and not have to pay the piper. Why were they so successful? Maybe on the legal side, or something else than building a fortress patent portfolio and actually protecting it.
