The Importance of Emotional Experiences in the Church
In the church, we're constantly raised to privilege emotional experiences over critical thinking. And this is a problem because as we've been talking about throughout these episodes, we could show throughout history that feelings are just not a reliable indicator of truth. When you condition members to retreat from evidence that makes them feel uncomfortable and make them feel like their beliefs are being attacked, you can then present them with the comfort of apologetics. That's what Dallin Oaks was doing by saying you can't trust the experts unless those experts are us.
