Christian allegiance to Jesus as Lord threatened Rome's hegemony. Tacitus called Christians haters of humankind because they refused to participate in Roman cultural norms. They were radically different in their sexuality and that their sexual desire was channeled into the container of a loving lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman.
