The technology of reputation might allow us to leverage up small group dynamics towards large group dynamics. But then it's open to reputational warfare, and i think reputation systems will be gamed. The mutation pressures that are happening in nature are relatively evenly distributed across the system. And so you only get the situation where micro rivalry leads to macro symbiosis when you have something like a semmetry of power within the system.
