The Importance of the Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was a declaration of independence, even if you didn't put it down on parchment. There are other colonies had declared independence before and put down to one extent or another. The thing is that this was recognized at the time as a big frickin' deal. And so I kind of think the people who invest too much pro or con in the idea that America is an idea and not a nation get it wrong.
