The End of Crimean History
The Crimean Peninsula remains and becomes even more important Soviet naval base. It also becomes a place where Soviet notables can retire for the very simple reason that it's warm, and most of the rest of Russia is not. When you're a recent arrival in a colonizing position, the notion that a place has always been yours is very attractive. The idea that you were always there is attractive precisely because you weren't. In this transfer of 1954, this grand gesture between Russian and Ukraine, the Crimean's are totally absent.
