The Government's New Toll Structure Has Had a Big Impact on Taxi Usage of the Harbor Tunnels
Transport Secretary Lam Soy-Hung says traffic through the harbor tunnels was smooth on the first day of the government's new toll structure. The fee for car drivers has been cut by $15 at the Western Harbor Crossing to 60 and raised by $20 at the cross-harpetonal, making the tolls for both $30. But taxis now pay $25 to use any of the three tunnels and Mr Lam said this has made an immediate difference. One taxi driver told RTHK that he and a lot of his colleagues will start using the West Harbor Crossing more now that it's cheaper.
