Introduction

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on the 21st of April 1926. Her life was transformed when her uncle, King Edward VIII, abandoned the throne to marry the American Divorcee Wallace Simpson. The early years of George VI's reign were dominated by the Second World War. With her younger sister Margaret, Elizabeth broadcast a message to children evacuated overseas.
