The Nuclear Industry's Response to Social Concerns
In the united states for many years there was this project at yucca mountain to basically bury this stuff. The idea is that you would put your waste in the center of the desert deep underground so it could harm no one and no one would be near it but we already have a system that has a perfect safety record. So i think yuccamountain is another example of the nuclear industry trying to respond to social concerns with costly technological solutions. It's not actually making things safer just sort of trying to make people feel like something is being done exactly.
