Hyper Capitalism and the Mental Health Plague
We in the US are two to three times more likely to be diagnosed with depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions than people who live in countries like the Netherlands, France, and Germany where at least education, health care is provided. And most tragically for me personally, 2,500 years after the Buddha lived, Buddhism today is now presented in this completely business friendly versionwhere people are encouraged to believe that the Buddha simply taught when you're feeling stressed, meditate alone in isolation. Alas, hyper capitalism is so powerful and so capable of assimilating opposition into itself that it's highly difficult to visualize in the at least in my lifetime, it having a meaningful transition to a more just system
