The History of Pholic Acid

Pholic acid was used as a test for folate levels and people. Researchers observed that some people undergoing pholic acid therapy for, say, anemia, experienced greater tumor growth. This led to the development of anti-pholates, or pholate antagonists, as a cancer treatment. The connection between pholic acid deficiency and neural tube defects is still not fully understood.
