Renee Marston and Camilla Zydan had been best friends since year nine of high school. During the early stages of their friendship, the Marston's noticed considerable changes in Renee's behaviour. The more time she spent with Camilla, the more withdrawn she became. She started smoking cigarettes and ditching school as a result. In 2008, Renee made another confession to her cousin Stephanie that Camilla had tried to kiss her several times. Although Renee considered herself heterosexual, the two eventually experimented physically. They would alternate between trying to seduce Renee and being violent towards her.
