Even on the third last page of the book, he's still hating his family. Well, yeah, this is a very hard vision. And yet at the same time, it seems to me he is suggesting with a kind of inevitability and a sort of inevitability in this argument that it is real. Tolstoy is not an nihilist. He's saying this is there, but don't forget how powerful everything else is.
