The American Indian Movement Is a Response to the Trail of Tears
For a long time, trust has just been broken between Native Americans and the federal government. There are laws on the books specifically designed at pushing Native Americans off reservations or hastening assimilation. The American Indian movement is a response to this war against reservations going well into the 1950s and 1960s. It starts in Minneapolis, Minnesota because there had already been so much relocation of these tribes.
