Is the Bible Contributing to the Problem of Sexual Violence?
There's so much imagery around israel or the church as a promiscuous woman, or an unfaithful wife. The prophets were trying to make sense of dramatic events in order to make themselves collectively feel like victimhood. They may have tried to shift their experience of powerlessness and loss of control by tying it back to god who has every right to inflict brutal punishment upon his wife.
